Background

Inclusive Robotics is an evidence-based program emerging from an international study (2018-current) involving Australia, Norway and England early childhood and home-based settings.
The aim of this program is to provide evidence-based resources for educators and communities to better understand strategies and techniques for improving children’s social-emotional, communication, literacy and oral language skills as well as early numeracy skills through robot play.

Challenge

Inclusive Robotics needed a brand identity that could capture the imagination of young children while effectively communicating its evidence-based mission to educators and communities. The challenge was to design a playful and approachable visual language that would resonate with early learners, making robot play engaging and accessible, while still reflecting the program’s focus on social-emotional development, communication, literacy, and numeracy skills.

Solution

We developed a vibrant and engaging brand identity centred around two dynamic characters, Lexi and Sparkz. These playful mascots are designed to captivate young imaginations while embodying the core educational pillars of Inclusive Robotics. Lexi and Sparkz are versatile, shape-shifting characters who transform into various forms to creatively illustrate key concepts like literacy, numeracy, science, emotion, and language. This ability to morph allows them to seamlessly adapt to different learning scenarios, making complex ideas approachable and fun for children.

The design system amplifies their playful energy with bold, impactful visuals, featuring bright, cheerful colors and bold typography that grabs attention and invites interaction. Each element of the brand is carefully crafted to ensure a balance between childlike wonder and educational purpose, creating a cohesive identity that resonates equally with children, educators, and communities. This bold yet approachable aesthetic ensures the brand feels modern, inclusive, and full of possibility, reflecting the innovative and transformative mission of Inclusive Robotics.

The brand ecosystem was built for motion, anchored by simple, bold forms that can shift, morph, and animate into an endless array of expressions. Fluid, adaptable, and full of energy.

Lexi and Sparx are dynamic, adaptable characters designed to bring any subject to life, creating an engaging educational platform where children can learn, explore, and connect. Their personalities and interactions evolve based on each child’s learning style and interests, making the experience both personal and impactful.

Across all applications, the intuitive and streamlined design system ensures that users can easily navigate and interact with the learning materials, removing friction and enhancing focus for a more effective learning experience.

Colour, typography, and form work in harmony to create a visually engaging world. One that sparks curiosity, supports learning, and invites children to explore the platform with enthusiasm and ease.
